Founding Principles

LittleBlueCup is built around a simple belief: tiny things can matter enormously.

LittleBlueCup exists because some people rely on specific items for comfort, regulation, communication, safety, routine, familiarity, or simply getting through the day.

1. The need comes first

The lasting thing is the need, not the post.

A need may last for years. A social media post may disappear from view within days. A Search can be refreshed and shared again whenever help is still needed.

LittleBlueCup is designed around what the person needs, not around temporary social media activity.

2. Self Search comes first

Everyone starts with Self Search where possible.

This matters because:

  • it gives the community a first chance to help
  • it helps show whether the item is genuinely hard to find
  • it helps moderators understand what has already been tried
  • it protects the main page from becoming overwhelmed

Self Search is not a punishment or a hoop for the sake of it. It is the first layer of community searching.

3. Not every Search becomes a Featured Search

Some Searches become Featured Searches and receive full promotion. Others remain Continuing Searches and stay searchable on the website.

Some Search requests may be declined if they do not fit the purpose of LittleBlueCup.

This is about keeping the platform useful and fair.

4. Quantities matter

Finding one item can be life-changing, but sometimes one is not enough.

LittleBlueCup tracks:

  • how many are needed
  • how many have been found
  • how many are still needed

5. Stories help Searches succeed

People often search harder when they understand who they are helping.

Photos, video clips, audio and stories can make a Search more powerful.

Families control what they share.

Nobody is forced to share photos or videos. The system should explain why these things can help.

6. Safety matters

LittleBlueCup protects user privacy. Email addresses are not shared automatically. Messages may be reviewed where needed. Suspicious behaviour can be reported.

LittleBlueCup strongly recommends that items are received before payment is sent.

7. Moderation is human

Moderators make judgement calls. The system can help organise and flag things, but it should not replace human care and common sense.

Automation should reduce admin, not remove kindness.

8. Older Searches still matter

Some Searches may remain active for years. Older Searches should not be forgotten.

The website helps keep them visible through Continuing Searches, refreshes, roundups and anniversaries.

Principles in practice

Short reminders for the choices LittleBlueCup keeps making, especially when the work gets busy.

The need comes first

The long-term need matters more than any one post.

Community powered

People help by looking, sharing, remembering, and caring.

Human moderated

Tools can organise the work, but judgement stays human.

Safety minded

Privacy, careful messaging, and reporting are part of the work.

Quantity aware

Found one can be wonderful. Enough is the real aim.

Built for the long term

Older Searches can still matter, even after the first burst of attention.

Built carefully, not loudly.

LittleBlueCup is here to make searching more organised, more transparent, and more hopeful, without losing the human heart that made it work in the first place.
