Community Values

LittleBlueCup only works when people treat each other with care.

The items people search for may look ordinary from the outside, but they can be deeply important to the person who needs them.

Kindness first

People may come to LittleBlueCup tired, stressed, upset, embarrassed, desperate or grieving the loss of an item that helped daily life hold together.

Everyone should be treated gently.

Kindness does not mean agreeing with everything. It means responding with care.

Start with belief, stay sensible

LittleBlueCup begins from a place of compassion and good faith, while still using moderation, sensible checks and human judgement.

This helps protect:

  • families
  • people offering help
  • moderators
  • the wider community

No judgement about what matters

A cup, teddy, blanket, book, hat, toy, plate or item of clothing may seem small to somebody else.

That does not make it small to the person who relies on it.

A Search is not an invitation to debate somebody's need

Many families and carers have already heard comments that are exhausting, unhelpful and deeply hurtful.

Comments people may already have heard:

  • “They will grow out of it.”
  • “You just need firmer boundaries.”
  • “Have you tried taking it away?”
  • “You are encouraging the behaviour.”
  • “They do not really need it.”
  • “This could be solved with different parenting.”

If a Search is approved, the community helps look for the item. It does not debate whether the person should need it.

We do not host debates about:

  • parenting styles
  • behaviour modification
  • punishment
  • withholding items
  • forcing change
  • “tough love”
  • whether somebody should be attached to an item
  • whether a family should handle things differently

Comments like these may be removed. People who repeatedly post them may have their account restricted on LittleBlueCup.

Honesty matters

Trust stays strong when everyone is clear about what they know, what they have already tried and what they can genuinely offer.

People submitting a Search request must be honest about:

  • the exact item or version needed
  • what has already been tried
  • whether the item is still available through ordinary routes
  • offers or possible matches already received
  • how many are still needed

People offering help must be honest about:

  • what they have
  • its condition
  • what they expect in return
  • whether they can post or arrange collection
  • when they are realistically able to send it

Safety matters

Scams and dishonest behaviour harm vulnerable families and damage the whole community.

People using LittleBlueCup should:

  • report suspicious messages or offers
  • avoid pressure to act or pay quickly
  • be cautious if asked for money
  • keep communication through LittleBlueCup where possible
  • avoid sharing unnecessary private information

LittleBlueCup strongly recommends that items are received before payment is sent.

Privacy matters

People should share only what is relevant and what they are entitled to share. Another person's private information should not be posted without an appropriate reason or permission.

  • email addresses
  • phone numbers
  • home addresses
  • private photographs
  • medical or diagnostic information
  • personal stories
  • private messages

LittleBlueCup will not automatically expose user email addresses.

Respect moderators

Moderators are here to keep Search requests, Searches and conversations organised, fair and safe.

They may:

  • ask questions
  • request more information
  • decline Search requests
  • remove content or messages
  • restrict accounts
  • pause, close or archive Searches

Moderation helps keep LittleBlueCup safe, useful and fair. It is not used to punish people or win arguments.

What we do not allow

LittleBlueCup does not allow:

  • scams
  • fake or deliberately misleading offers
  • dishonest or fraudulent Search requests
  • harassment
  • bullying
  • threats
  • hate or discriminatory abuse
  • shaming families
  • attacking or criticising somebody's parenting
  • blaming families
  • pressure to send money
  • behaviour-modification arguments on approved Searches
  • sharing private details without permission
  • abuse of moderators or other users
  • exploiting vulnerable people
  • attempts to bypass moderation or account restrictions

What we hope for

A community does not have to be loud to be powerful. These are the habits that help LittleBlueCup work.

Kind

Start with care, especially when somebody is distressed.

Practical

Look for useful next steps, not perfect words.

Honest

Be clear about what you know, have, need and can do.

Patient

Some Searches take time, and people may need breathing room.

Curious

Ask thoughtful questions before making assumptions.

Careful

Protect privacy, safety and trust as a Search moves along.

Generous where possible

Offer help in ways that are realistic and safe for you.

Willing to look in unlikely places

Cupboards, lofts, drawers and forgotten corners all count.

A community built on tiny acts of effort

Every cupboard checked, every attic searched, every photograph shared and every kind message matters.

LittleBlueCup works because ordinary people take a few minutes to help somebody they may never meet.
